The NIRF rankings are based on a number of factors, including teaching, learning and resources, research and professional practice, graduation outcomes, outreach and inclusivity, and peer perception. The Indian Institute of Science topped the rankings for the fifth consecutive year, while Jawaharlal Nehru University improved two places to take second place. Jamia Millia Islamia and Jadavpur University both moved up one place to take third and fourth place respectively. Banaras Hindu University remained in fifth place, while Manipal Academy of Higher Education moved up one place to take sixth place. Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham moved up two places to take seventh place, while Vellore Institute of Technology moved up one place to take eighth place. Aligarh Muslim University moved up one place to take ninth place, while University of Hyderabad moved down one place to take tenth place.
